Walk. Give. Change The World

Roanoke Valley CROP Hunger Walk

The needs of the hungry in the Roanoke Valley community and worldwide are greater than ever! Join us for the 40th Annual Roanoke Valley CROP Hunger Walk on Sunday, October 8th starting at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2101 S. Jefferson Street, Roanoke, VA 24014. Invite your friends, family, neighbors, and co-workers to join you as we walk together to end poverty and hunger in our community and around the world.

Preparing for the Walk:

  • Register and set up your team page online so you don’t have to handle cash and checks.
  • We are offering t-shirts this year. Please select your t-shirt size by September 11.
  • Attend the CROP Walk Kick-off meeting on August 27 at 2:00 PM at the Community Solutions Center (CSC). The CSC (2328 Melrose Ave NW, Roanoke, VA 24017) will be the local recipient of 25% of the funds we raise. We will learn about the CSC, local and global needs and impact of the CROP Walk, meet other hunger champions, and pick up brochures, bulletin inserts, and other promotional materials for the walk.
  • Set your fundraising goal and recruit walkers and sponsors to support you.

Walk Day:

  • Registration for teams and individuals begins at 1:30 pm.
  • Step off is at 2:00 pm.
  • Take pictures and videos about why you walk and share them on social media using #Endhungernow, #enough4all, #CROPWalk2023, and #CROPHungerWalk.

Commissioners and Cans

Food and Fund Drive

The Commissioners & Cans Food and Fund Drive, an annual partnership between The Commissioners of the Revenue Association of Virginia and the Virginia Federation of Food banks will span statewide once again beginning August 1st-August 31st.

Commissioners of the Revenue across the Commonwealth will take on the fight against food insecurity through what began as a regional effort on the Virginia Peninsula in 2018 and became statewide in 2019. Now, in its fifth year Commissioners & Cans is Virginia’s longest-running statewide food drive and the only food drive amongst local elected officials.

As Commissioners of the Revenue, we serve in a constitutional capacity. Traditionally, we are known for our administrative roles. However, this effort gives us an opportunity to show our compassion for our constituents and we are immensely proud to make this opportunity an extension of our commitment to serve.” Commissioner Tiffany M. Boyle
